How Jamaican Charities Are Helping People

By Kenneth Morgan

The spirit of charity is a good spirit. It is always great to extend the hand of help to those who are suffering. Not everyone in the world is blessed with abundance. Some people cannot afford the bare basics. Some individuals have to live for weeks without eating anything. There are also those who totally do not have access to clean and hygienic water. It is impossible for a human being to live without water. There are Jamaicans who are suffering. Luckily, Jamaican charities are offering much needed assistance.

The focus of a charity in Jamaica can be eradicating poverty in society. There are non governmental organizations that are in the business of financially empowering Jamaicans. At times, all that is needed is just some empowerment. That can be done through proving people with micro finance loans that will help them to start businesses or grow their existing businesses.

Poverty is not only common in the developing world. One does not have to visit Asia or Africa so that to see the brunt of poverty. Even in the US, there are many poor people who cannot afford to make ends meet. Actually, there is a very big gap between the rich and the poor. Some Americans are actually homeless.

There is a segment of the Jamaican society that is wallowing in poverty. In most cases, poverty operates in a vicious circle that can be hard to break. However, with the right assistance, that circle will be broken. When one is born poor, he can easily pass the poverty to his children. Lack of jobs is increasing the level of poverty.

Illiteracy is a bad thing. It is a sad thing that even in the 21st century the problem of illiteracy has not been totally eradicated from the world. It is disheartening that some adults who do not know how to read and write. There are Jamaican charity organizations that deal with the problem of illiteracy. Education is good.

There are charities that normally build schools. Jamaica just like many other developing countries needs more schools. Educating a child is one of the best things that an individual can do. When a child is educated, he can easily prosper in life. That is because knowledge is power. A charity can also supply books, computers and sports equipment to a school.

The importance of health must never be underestimated at any moment in time. An unhealthy person will not be productive. When many people in a country are sick, the GDP of the nation will plummet. In the developing world, there are very few hospitals and doctors. A charity can help in the area of increasing medical facilities in a particular country.

The hand that gives is the hand that receives. It is better to give than to receive. Those who have been blessed with plenty should consider those who are suffering and help them. One of the ways of helping is by contributing money to a reputable charity. Before making any contribution, there is the need to establish the reputation of an organization.
