Build Resumes Online For Effective Job Hunting

By Linda Brooks

The job hunting process is something that is changing a lot, mostly due to modern communication. While it helps to know the right skills, the presentation makes a huge difference. When a person is applying for a particular position, they may want to open themselves to other openings in the same company. This is why a person should build resumes online so they can have immediate access to more than one.

What job applicants of today must realize is that electronic media can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. In the case of someone in the position of hiring someone to fill an opening, they may receive hundred of resumes in a single day. They have to filter out the right candidates as quickly as possible and going for the most attractive is the practical solution.

Using a resume builder can assist users with creating different types of work histories. While most places will accept something written as a document or doc, others may have other formatting requests. This may include plain text, Portable Document File, or Rich Text Format. These are also good for creating different styles, as one may prefer to have one with visuals or a job history that is ideal for automated scanners.

This is why people will create various versions of a single resume. One may have popular keywords near the top half. Another may be in the traditional format, plain text, or as a Portable Document File. Sometimes companies use automated software to filter out specific keywords.

When it comes to adding all of these wonderful things, the user needs to keep placement in mind. Unlike traditional resumes where the work history section and skills are near the bottom, most electronic versions are the opposite. Some job placement specialists even recommend adding job title keywords near the top in case a scanner is being used to locate the right candidates.

Another reason why it helps to learn about online resumes is keyword placement. If there are industry buzzwords or phrases likely to catch the eye of an employer, these need to be placed near the top of the resume. The reason is that the recipient may receive hundreds of resumes for one position and does not have time to read each one thoroughly. So they look at maybe the first half of the page before deciding whether or not to proceed with an applicant.

One advantage to having an online resume is that most builders will allow links generated from outside parties. There are some continuing education institutions that offer certificate or badge links to students that have completed the curriculum. When the recipient can verify the credentials presented by the applicant, this may expedite the hiring process.

Many job placement specialists also recommended tailoring a job to meet certain specifications listed on each job advertisement. Once again, it helps to place keywords near the top and rework past experience so that it may relate to the position of interest. Since many resume sites allow users to add more than one, it helps to save these and use a flash drive as a backup.
