By Shirley Mitchell

This is one of the holidays that are celebrated by the Jews up to date. It is known as Rosh Hashanah loosely translated to first of the year. The day appears on the first day of the seventh month in the Jewish calendar. The Feast Of Trumpets is a very significant aspect of the Christians lives because it creates a picture of what happened and what is to come. The following are some of the facts of that special day.

The day is associated with the biblical times when God ordered Moses to assemble all the Israelites in the foot of Mount Sinai. The trumpets were used to convey the message. The book of Exodus 19: 16-19 records that as the trumpets got louder the Israelites assembled near the mountain. They were terrified and trembled due to the lightening, thunder, and huge billows of smoke that came from the mountain. This is an important event as it indicates the establishment of covenant between mankind and God.

This day is a special command of God for the Israelites. Through the guidance of Moses, the Israelites were directed to observe the memorial of the blowing of the trumpet on first day of the seventh month each year. This is illustrated in the book of Leviticus 23:1, 4 and 24-25. It is therefore a command that all the descendants of Abraham who are todays Christian to observe this special day.

Jesus came down to establish the covenant and renew another one. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ was to remind the Christians that the covenant has been renewed as indicated in Luke 22:20. The life that Jesus went through is a constant reminder that Jesus renewed the covenant. The act is also remembered through constant Holy Communion but the major celebration is during this feast. It reminds the Christians to maintain the life of Christ.

The feast has a very significant meaning in the life of a Christian. It signifies that when Jesus will descend down, there will be blowing of the seven trumpets. The rapture will follow and the dead will be resurrected. Some verses that support this include the book of Matthew 24:31 and 1 Corinthians 15:52. It will be a day that Jesus will come to take the Christians and take over the Kingdoms of earth.

History indicates that the celebrations were held in the desert. People would latter assemble in the temples of Jerusalem and they would come in large numbers. In current world the meaning of the celebration is more important and the celebration can take place anywhere.

This is a day that the God ordered all Christian to stop the normal activities and concentrate on him. It is an important feast for Christian to meditate on the greater things that are to come. The sounds of the trumpets show that God had a purpose for the day to be celebrated as it reveals on the second coming of Jesus Christ, the resurrection and the establishment of the kingdom of God.

The feasts of trumpets are a special way of commemorating the important events that took place. The events range from the first covenant between God and Man through Moses, Renewal of the covenant through Jesus Christ and the importance of the second coming of Jesus Christ. The feast should be observed by every Christian that professes that Jesus is Lord.
