Army Portable Water Treatment Units

By Anna Mitchell

Seawater desalination systems used to be heavy and difficult to transport, and they often required special transport. Another problem was that they simply could not treat any type of a source. Army Portable Water Treatment Units proved to be easier to handle, much easier to transport just about anywhere and much more effective in any situation.

Thanks to this new and innovative technology, other sources can be successfully used, including brackish water and even the one polluted with different chemicals, bacteria and so on. This might be of a great importance not only for military issues, but also wherever there is a problem with supplies, for example during floats, natural disasters or humanitarian crises in different parts of the world.

The first thing that cannot be neglected is the price of a bottled water used today. Using this innovative purifying system these expenses can be lowered to a minimum. In other words, using available sources, these costs will involve only the costs of a fuel spent and the chemicals that are used in the process of cleaning the equipment, plus the costs of a chlorine that is added in the final stage of the process, and this is all just a small fragment of existing expenses.

The whole principle is basically simple, but highly effective. The water is drawn from the source using the pump, through the strainer, into the collapsible fabric tank. These collapsible tanks are really easy to manage and transport. From there, it is drawn through a floating 200-micron strainer, using a booster pump, before entering the UF module. All stages are designed to work simultaneously.

The task of the UF module is to filter all kinds of particles, and this includes all types of microorganisms and different bacteria. Additional filtration through RO membrane will finally purify the liquid, producing clean and sanitized one. In the end, everything is additionally chlorinated, and the whole process is really fast and highly efficient.

All in all, there are numerous important advantages of this innovative purifying method. Beside being highly efficient, for only a fragment of existing costs, this system is really easily transported anywhere in the world, it can use different sources, even highly polluted ones, it is fast, cost-efficient and reliable, and easy to handle and maintain.

When it comes to expenses, the difference is incomparable. Other purifying systems can reduce costs as well. For example, bottles can cost approximately 5$ per gallon, and using purifying system of the first generation can lower these costs on 1$ per gallon. Using this innovative system will make these costs significantly lower, on maybe 0,07$ per gallon, and this is a great difference.

Except being used in different military operations, these purifying systems could be of a great help when it comes to humanitarian crises, pollution or other emergency responses. Low costs, high efficiency and the possibility of treating all available sources, including those contaminated with various chemicals or even biological warfare agents, all this makes this system really special.
