Fundamental Leading High Performance Teams Tactics

By Kimberly Sullivan

A high performance team can best be described as a grouping of like-minded professionals pursuing a similar goal. This group requires as little as resources and support to do amazing things. The most effective groups are built on the foundation of efficient communication, creative solutions and pursuit for results. Here are the best leading high performance teams tactics that you can use.

Set goals and provide direction for the team. Each team requires a vision and a mission. Most importantly, its leaders must differentiate the two. The vision should be communicated with clarity for easy adoption. Everyone becomes a leader at his or her level and can therefore drive the vision. This vision will then be translated into priorities, initiatives and necessary resources allocated.

Allocate the resources required. Resources are classified in three categories. People, money and time. During your planning, you must identify the right people to work with in order to achieve your vision. Be clear on the monetary implications of initiatives that you take. Provide leadership by allocating time and access to resourceful persons for people who are driving your vision. If people cannot access their leaders, they will find problems implementing ideas because they lack confidence.

Have the right team on your side to achieve the desired goals. People are some of the skills that you identify as you plan your projects. Human resource is usually very specific. You must get the right skill set combination if you are to achieve set goals. Give room to the people to innovate around the solutions you require. The gel that will glue your team together is personalities and the ability to build trust among team members.

Be prompt in executing your plan. Make decisions and begin acting on them. Have targets and seek to meet them early and fast. Be cautious of personal agendas and biases that are likely to derail your team. Work on achieving the best level of efficiency. Have fewer and shorter productive meetings so that you can spend more time on results.

People are not machine and therefore require a lot of motivation. The first angle of motivation is allowing people to be creative. Give them room to drive the agenda as long as they do not get out of track. People must learn to be both accountable and responsible of their actions. Get feedback, recognize effort and promote people.

Teams take time to build. You will realize that you need new skills into the team and have new talents that can be used elsewhere. Continuous training is important alongside having a succession plan. While you give people chances, you must not take too much risk. Switch talents around until you have found the perfect balance.

Teams are only built through deliberate and continuous effort. Their journey relies on a clear vision, taking the right action, having the confidence to execute and being courageous to take risks. It takes solid leadership to drive this process. As the executive, you must provide the right environment and resources as well as be prepared to celebrate winners and reward their efforts.
